Ford's Everest continues to 'trend' upwards in the eyes of critics and the sales charts – and this one-up from base 4x4 makes it clear why.

Excellent V6 not available in Trend spec
Long a đứng đầu pick in the large ute-base 4×4 segment, the Everest has forever played a distant second fiddle to lớn the related Ranger pick-up on the sales charts, up until quite recently.
The “Next-Gen” Everest, which launched around July-August 2022, set a number of sales records last year và has the xanh Oval firmly in contention for segment sales leadership. Going into 2023, a full year of deliveries could prove to be a turnaround for this off-road-capable seven seater.
Here on kiểm tra we have the one-up-from-base 2023 Ford Everest Trend Bi-Turbo with the optional 4×4 system – arguably, the only way lớn have the Everest anyway lớn make the most of its capabilities. Could this be the sweet spot in the range?

How much does the Ford Everest Trend cost?
The Ford Everest range opens at $53,290 plus on-road costs for the base Ambiente 4×2, but the Trend 4×4 on kiểm tra is a bit dearer starting at $65,590 before on-roads.
You can get the Everest Trend Bi-Turbo as a 4×2 for $60,590 – though if you have any intentions of going off-road we’d suggest the all-paw mã sản phẩm is the one to lớn buy.
Despite the Trend being one-up from base trim in the Everest family, it’s priced in line with high-spec versions of most direct xeotoford.competitors.
An Isuzu MU-X LS-T will set you back $65,990 drive-away, while the tập đoàn mitsubishi Pajero sport GSR 4WD is currently available at $65,490 drive-away.
Even the Toyota Fortuner Crusade flagship is more affordable at $62,945 plus on-roads; while the top-selling Land
Cruiser Prado in mid-spec GXL flavour is priced from $67,530.

What is the Ford Everest Trend like on the inside?
While it’s only one-up from base level, Ford has done a great job at making the Everest Trend’s interior xeotoford.competitive at this price point.
The Trend upgrades to lớn the larger 12-inch central infotainment system over the Ambiente’s ‘basic’ 10-inch unit, và the soft-touch door tops & leather-accented trim really lift the ambience over said Ambiente.
Ahead of the driver is the 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster that’s xeotoford.common to all variants bar the top-spec Platinum, and the leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel looks good and feels good in the hand.
As we’ve covered previously, Ford’s display tech is top of the class, no question.
The 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment unit offers largest-in-class display real estate, arguably class-leading usability và response, & is well-featured. Wireless điện thoại cảm ứng thông minh mirroring, embedded satellite navigation with online updates, voice control & DAB radio cover all bases.
In practice the screen is quite easy khổng lồ use, và everything works as it should. Wireless táo bị cắn dở Car
Play worked the first time, every time with my i
Phone 14 Pro Max, while the screen is quick to respond khổng lồ touch inputs và the menus are all logically laid out.
Props lớn Ford for including both virtual và physical climate controls, allowing you to lớn use the base of the screen to toggle temperature or the knobs underneath. It avoids you being limited khổng lồ touch functionality, which can be a little clumsy if you need to adjust things on the move.
The basic 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster is a little spartan for my liking, và I wish there was the option to upgrade to lớn the Platinum’s excellent 12-inch unit. But, it does the job và has a few different widgets và menus you can shuffle through.
xeotoford.comfort up front is excellent, with the driver’s seat also power nguồn adjustable six ways. The leather-accented trim is hardy but doesn’t feel lượt thích toad skin, & there’s plenty of space giving and airy feel.
Storage is likewise very good. There are plenty of nooks in the centre console for loose items, as well as a wireless điện thoại cảm ứng thông minh charging pad. The door pockets are a little skinny for a oto this large và rugged, though the huge centre bin under the padded armrest sort of makes up for it.
Rear seat space has improved over the previous generation, và the elevated theatre-style seating means little ones will have a good view out – no more emergency stops for oto sickness.
Leg, head & knee room are all plentiful even if you’re over six-foot lượt thích myself, & if you can squeeze three across for shorter journeys. I will note the large driveline hump in the floor eats into foot room, however.
While there isn’t a third zone of climate control, there is a manual fan hâm mộ control lớn toggle the air tốc độ through the roof-mounted air vents in the second & third rows, which is handy lớn have. Behind the centre console is also a module with USB-A và USB-C outlets to lớn keep phones và i
Pads juiced.
Other rear seat amenities include maps pockets behind the front seatbacks, a fold-down centre armrest with cupholders, bottle holders in the doors, as well as the requisite ISOFIX window seat anchors & top-tether points across all three rear seats.
Access to lớn the third row is via folding & sliding the second row forward, but it’s not quite as easy to get in as it is in something lượt thích a cơ Sorento or Mazda CX-9. Once you’re back there it’s more than kid friendly, và you can probably pinch some adults in there for a shorter journey.
Air vents feature back there, along with 12V ports, and the curtain airbags cover all three rows of seating. Big windows are also a plus.
Behind the third row, there’s 259L of cargo space, expanding khổng lồ 898L with it folded và 1823L with the second row folded. With all three rows up, you can fit either some small bags or perhaps one suitcase, pending size.
What’s under the bonnet?
The Everest Trend is exclusively offered with the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo four-cylinder diesel, tested here with the optional full-time 4×4 drivetrain.
Outputs for the four-pot oiler are rated at 154k
W (3750rpm) và 500Nm (1750-2000rpm), with drive channelled to lớn that aforementioned full-time 4×4 system via a standard 10-speed automatic transmission.
As noted earlier, you can save $5000 and get the Trend-spec as a 4×2 which drives the rear wheels only. Otherwise, the engine specs & transmission are the same.
Further up the range, in thể thao and Platinum grades, you can also choose from a beefier 184k
W/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel.
Ford quotes xeotoford.combined fuel consumption of 7.2 litres per 100km, with the fuel tank measuring 80 litres in capacity. The engine is triệu euro 6 certified, & features idle stop/start tech và Ad
Blue injection.
The Everest is rated to lớn tow up khổng lồ 3500kg with a braked trailer. Kerb weight for this variant is listed as 2383kg, while gross vehicle mass (GVM) is rated at 3100kg and gross xeotoford.combination mass (GCM) is 6250kg.
How does the Ford Everest Trend drive?
As we’ve found in previous Everest reviews, this latest generation is a huge step forward for ute-based SUVs.
The latest Everest (and Ranger for that matter) transcend their workhorse underpinnings to offer luxury SUV levels of xeotoford.comfort và refinement on the road. Moreso the Everest, given its more pliant coil-spring rear suspension.
Fire it up và the Bi-Turbo diesel puts out a subdued diesel clatter that’s typical of smaller-capacity oilers, though it’s never to lớn the point where you’d consider it unrefined – particularly against its xeotoford.competition.
In town the 2.0-litre diesel hardly feels underpowered, with enough torque và gear ratios to lớn get along effortlessly.
The 10-speed automatic is a noticeable improvement over the preceding Everest, which doesn’t sound lượt thích it’s constantly hunting for the right gear, và offers crisper upshifts under acceleration – the old one would at times sound like a CVT.
xeotoford.comfort in the Everest Trend is another strong point in the city, thanks to lớn its smaller 18-inch wheels & chubby tyres. It irons out the lumps & bumps of urban and inner-city roads with aplomb, và doesn’t suffer much wallowing or clumsy body control that some vehicles in this segment do.
Light steering and good outward visibility also make this big bus that little bit easier khổng lồ place in tight streets và car parks, though there’s no escaping its lofty ride height và hefty exterior dimensions – remember the Everest measures 4914mm long & 2207mm wide.
Our test oto was also fitted with the $2300 Touring Pack, which adds trailer coverage for the blind-spot monitoring và rear cross-traffic alert systems, along with a surround-view camera system. It’s a shame the cameras aren’t standard given the price point, but nevertheless they địa chỉ cửa hàng to an already well-rounded package & further aid outward visibility.
In terms of refinement, the Everest’s cabin is a pretty quiet place to lớn spend time regardless of whether you’re putting around the ‘burbs or touring an interstate highway – even on our chạy thử car’s optional all-terrain tyre package.
The more rugged rubber transmits faint tyre roar into the cabin, but it’s arguably quieter at speed than some premium-badged xeotoford.compact passenger vehicles that retail for similar money.
Speaking of the highway, the 10-speed tự động and 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel hum away almost silently in the background at a cruise, making the Everest a fantastic cross-country tourer.
The ride is settled và xeotoford.compliant over undulations, road và wind noise are kept khổng lồ impressive levels, & the array of standard driver assistance systems take the load off extended stints behind the wheel.
I’m a big fan hâm mộ of Ford’s adaptive cruise control & active lane guidance assists, which help keep the big Ford on the straight & narrow. They’re well calibrated too, so you don’t feel lượt thích you’re wrestling with the car for control of the steering wheel.
Off-Road
Paul Maric took the Everest Trend 4×4 off-road as part of the attached video review, & xeotoford.commented on the impressive off-road tech including the helpful displays in the instrument cluster, as well as the various drivetrain modes.
Thanks khổng lồ its intuitive traction control, 4×4 driveline & optional all-terrain rubber, the Everest Trend performed well across all the usual Car
Expert 4×4 challenges, including the offset moguls, hill climb & descent, water crossing, and rock test.
In Trend spec, the Everest boasts a lofty 226mm of ground clearance; approach, departure & breakover angles are 30.2, 25 and 21.9 degrees respectively, và there’s a locking rear differential. Also standard is a well-calibrated hill descent control – as Paul demonstrates in the video clip up top.
Ford also quotes a wading depth of 800 millimetres. Watch the đoạn phim above for more.

Is the Ford Everest Trend safe?
The Ford Everest earned a five-star safety rating in ANCAP testing, which applies khổng lồ all variants.
It scored 86 per cent for adult occupant protection, 93 per cent for child occupant protection, 74 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 86 per cent for safety assist.
The five-star rating is based on tests carried out on the closely related Ford Ranger ute. For owners of cars built before August 20, 2022, that rating only applies once a software update has been installed by a dealer.
Standard safety equipment includes:
9 airbags incl. Front-centreAutonomous emergency braking (AEB)Reverse AEBPost-impact braking
Lane departure warning
Lane keep assist
Driver attention alert
Blind-spot monitoring
Reverse camera
Front & rear parking sensors
How much does the Ford Everest Trend cost lớn run?
Like the wider Ford line-up, the Everest is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Ford nước australia also includes roadside assistance and auto Club membership for up lớn seven years.
Maintenance is required every 12 months or 15,000 kilometres – whichever xeotoford.comes first. The first four services (up to 60,000km) are priced at $329 under the blue Oval’s capped-price service program.
As for real-world fuel consumption, we ended our week (over 520km) with an indicated 10.1L per 100km which is well up on the brand’s 7.2L/100km claim.
Worth noting is the fact we spent much of our time behind the wheel xeotoford.commuting to & from the office, as well as running errands around town.

Expert’s Take on the Ford Everest Trend
It’s very easy khổng lồ be drawn khổng lồ the blacked-out sport or glossy Platinum grades, but the humble Trend spec has quite a lot going for it.
While being one-up from base, the Trend can be specified to lớn the same levels as high-spec rivals for similar money, & the ‘entry-level’ 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel is more than a match for rival motors – though a V6 option would be nice.
As we’ve detailed in this review, the Next-Gen Everest range brings class-leading tech và driving refinement lớn a segment often regarded as fairly agricultural alternatives lớn unibody SUVs like the tê Sorento, Mazda CX-9 and Toyota Kluger.
Now, you can have proper off-road and towing capability without sacrificing the xeotoford.comfort & refinement you’d expect in more road-biased SUVs. The Everest can really bởi vì it all.
Does the Ford Everest still make sense without the sought after V6 diesel? See how it fared after over four months of testing.
The current-generation Ford Everest body-on-frame SUV has been on sale in nước australia for well over 12 months now, và there’s still plenty of demand for the V6 turbo-diesel variants.
There is also a wide range of Everests with the four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel engine offered and these are more likely in stock. This includes the mid-specification Trend 4WD variant on kiểm tra here.
The 2024 Ford Everest Trend 4WD is technically the most expensive variant in the four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel line-up. It’s also available with a wide range of optional packages that can bring the asking price eerily close to the better-specified thể thao V6 4WD.
As recently detailed, Ford is increasing the pricing for the entire Everest range for vehicles produced from January 1, 2024. Pricing is up by $2490, depending on the variant, with no corresponding specification changes.

How much does the Ford Everest cost?

Our tester is a mid-specification Trend variant with the full-time four-wheel drive system. This mã sản phẩm currently starts from $66,790 before on-roads.
It was fully optioned; though, with the $2300 Touring Pack, the $700 Trend Premium Seat Pack, as well as the $500 All-terrain Tyre pack. The tester was also finished in the Aluminium exterior paint colour which is an additional $700.
This brings the total asking price for our Everest Trend 4×4 tester to lớn $70,990 before on-roads, or $77,755 drive-away for Victorian buyers (each state has slightly different taxes).

In terms of similarly priced three-row SUV rivals, this fully optioned Everest Trend is priced up against a number of larger unibody three-row SUVs.
Key rivals include:
An exception to this rule is the Toyota Prado which in mid-spec GXL guise starts from $69,530 before on-roads. Our tester is notably more expensive than other seven-seat ute-based SUVs including the likes of the Isuzu MU-X, mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ssang
Yong Rexton, as well as the Toyota Fortuner.
What is the Ford Everest like on the inside?
Getting into the Everest Trend is made easier by a phối of side steps (fitted as standard) as it’s a fair way up. Once in I found I had to wiggle around a bit lớn get xeotoford.comfortable in the driver’s seat.
All seats in the Everest Trend are finished in a đen leather-accented upholstery as standard, though our tester was fitted with the optional Premium Seat Pack that adds perforations khổng lồ the first- and second-row seats.
This optional package also adds 10 ways of electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, eight ways of electric adjustment for the front passenger’s seat. The front seats are also heated & ventilated.
The driver’s seat is extremely xeotoford.comfortable with plenty of side bolstering holding you in place. The headrest is really soft and supple too.
I was able khổng lồ get my driving position dialled in perfectly thanks in part to the how much thigh support there was. I felt a little like I was in a clamshell, in the best way possible.
This driving position was helped by the decent tilt & reach adjustability of the Everest’s steering column. I have long legs and a shorter torso which typically means my knees hit the steering column và I have to stretch to reach the steering wheel.
The Everest Trend xeotoford.comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel which feels nice in the hand. The leather is not quite as buttery soft as some higher-spec Everest variants; though it’s still nice enough.
Just like the Ranger, the Everest’s steering wheel buttons are a little ‘spongey’ but the rocker switches have a precise and firm feel.
Ahead of the driver is an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster that’s incredibly configurable, yet a little on the smaller side.
Although you miss out on the full 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster (for which you need lớn purchase the flagship Platinum) the 8.0-inch unit looks better than traditional dials, with a tiny screen sandwiched between them. It still tells you all the critical information you need to lớn know.
Moving across the dash, the Everest Trend receives the larger 12.0-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, which looks very high-resolution but is an absolute fingerprint magnet. There’ll be even more smudgy fingerprints if you find the ‘Sketch’ section too.
xeotoford.compared lớn the smaller 10.1-inch touchscreen, this larger unit seemed to lớn lag a little more upon start-up or when loading new pages. Ford has since introduced a new software update that’s rolling out lớn all Rangers and Everests that will bring a refreshed look.
Apple Car
Play and Android tự động are both available via wired và wireless connections. You can change between two view sizes for the điện thoại mirroring, with a larger squarer or smaller rectangular window. The latter of these frees up a range of shortcut buttons.
Satellite navigation xeotoford.comes as standard on the Everest range and it’s extremely easy khổng lồ use. Searching up points of interest takes no time at all, making the process feel natural & simple.
A strange part of the Everest’s interior, like the Ranger, is the climate control set-up. Parts of it are integrated into the touchscreen, whereas the other parts are physical buttons & knobs.
There’s a weird double-up of the temperature controls; they’re able to lớn be adjusted either by physical dials or by tapping the screen. I still don’t really see the point of having both…
Around the cabin of the Everest Trend there is a mixture of both softer & harder plastics. Thankfully, softer stuff is around high-traffic touch points lượt thích the armrests và the main section of the dashboard.
You don’t have khổng lồ stray too far away from the armrests to lớn find harder plastics, however.
The Everest Trend xeotoford.comes with: tradie-style cupholders that are mounted on the dashboard; an upper glovebox; & a wireless phone charger. There’s also the e-shifter that’s a little hard lớn gauge which gear you’re in when using. It’s intuitive as a regular conventional gear shifter, though.
Moving to lớn the second row there’s a noticeable step down in terms of quality. The seats don’t feel quite as xeotoford.comfortable as the ones in the first row; although, the door và fold-down centre armrests are still soft.
The second-row seats both slide & recline which allows second-row passengers to lớn relax, or lớn maximise cargo capacity.
At a leggy 182cm I expected a little more space in the second row, as I needed to splay my legs around the driver’s seat in order to sit xeotoford.comfortably. There was still enough head và shoulder room though.
In terms of second-row amenities there are thankfully a mix of grab handles khổng lồ allow for easier ingress and egress, a separate blower control with roof-mounted air vents, and a 12V socket.
Trying lớn get into the Everest’s third row is a mission in itself. These seats should be considered an emergency, kids-only space because there’s no knee, head or shoulder space for adults.
The armrests are absolutely rock hard & there’s an awkward cupholder space on each side of the car.
In terms of boot space with the third row of seats upright, there’s 259 litres of boot capacity – và it’s actually fairly usable. This expands lớn a generous 898 litres with the third row folded away, and an almost van-like 1823 litres with the second và third rows of seats folded.
Other little storage nooks include a small space off khổng lồ the left-hand side of the boot, as well as a small covered section under the boot space where the tools that lower the full form size spare wheel are kept. It’s worth noting the Everest doesn’t xeotoford.come with a load cover – which means you’ll need to lớn be careful what you have in the boot because it will be on display for everyone who walks past.
The Everest Trend xeotoford.comes with a nguồn tailgate as standard. It should really be standard across the range. One last thing to mention about the Everest’s interior is the boot is incredibly well lit up with a light on the right-hand side and another mounted on the tailgate. I wish more cars had the latter.
What’s under the bonnet?
The Everest Trend is powered exclusively by a 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo four-cylinder diesel engine producing 154k
W of power và 500Nm of torque.
This is mated to lớn a 10-speed automatic transmission with drive sent either khổng lồ the rear wheels only or through a full-time four-wheel drive system. Our tester was equipped with the latter.
If you want the sought-after 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine you’ll need khổng lồ step up to the thể thao 4WD variant which starts at $72,490 before on-roads. That’s not a whole heap more than our fully equipped Trend tester.
The entire Everest range xeotoford.comes with a braked towing capacity of 3500kg, regardless of whether it’s two- or four-wheel drive. Maximum unbraked towing capacity is 750kg.
Claimed xeotoford.combined fuel economy for the Everest Trend 4WD is 7.2 litres per 100km. Over almost three months of Car
Expert testing we achieved an average of around 9.0 litres per 100km across a range of urban, metropolitan and highway driving.
All Everest variants xeotoford.come with an idle stop-start system. It has an 80-litre fuel tank and also requires Ad
Blue.
How does the Ford Everest drive?
If you thought the Everest’s interior was lượt thích the Ranger’s, you shouldn’t be shocked lớn learn it drives in a similar way too.
The Everest Trend’s 2.0-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine produces healthy outputs of 154k
W & 500Nm, which means it will keep up with traffic with no problems whatsoever. If you push it at the light you’ll likely pull ahead.
You will have to lớn massage the Everest’s throttle if you need khổng lồ get moving quickly; however, as stabbing the accelerator just results in turbo lag.
The entire Everest range xeotoford.comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission that keeps the revs in the torque band, which is between 1750 & 2000rpm.
Also just like the Ranger, the Everest’s transmission can get a little confused at low speeds and in stop-start traffic. It’s lượt thích it has too many gears lớn choose from.
The Everest’s steering is quite lượt thích Goldilocks in the sense it’s not too light nor too firm. In urban scenarios; however, & especially when parking, there’s no disguising how large the Everest is.
The Everest Trend typically only xeotoford.comes with a reversing camera plus front và rear parking sensors, but given our tester was fitted with the optional Touring Pack it adds a surround-view camera, among other features. This really helps when you’re trying to line up in a park lớn make sure you’re even on both sides.
Around the đô thị the Everest is extremely xeotoford.compliant, though at low speeds và during parking manoeuvres, the Everest’s ute roots begin to lớn show as there’s ever so slight rocking and swaying.
xeotoford.compared to lớn the Ranger which has leaf-spring rear suspension, the Everest receives a more passenger – và speed bump friendly – multi-link coil rear suspension setup. There’s no denying how well the Everest rides as it was tuned for Australian conditions.
At higher speeds the Everest really finds its groove and it’s where it feels most xeotoford.comfortable. Driving on the highway or freeway you definitely get a ‘King of the Road’ feeling as you sit up so high.
Something to cảnh báo is you need lớn plan your overtaking manoeuvres because this almost 2.4-tonne SUV takes some motivation accelerating to lớn a higher tốc độ . This will be even more apparent if you’ve got the oto loaded with people, or are towing.
You’ll need to lớn step up khổng lồ at least to the Everest sport 4WD khổng lồ get the sought-after V6 turbo-diesel if you want more effortless overtaking. It produces 30k
W and 100Nm more than the bi-turbo four-cylinder.
Our tester was equipped with the optional all-terrain tyres which cause a bit of tyre roar on sealed surfaces, but unlock so much more off-roading potential.
On the flip side; however, the all-terrain tyres can make the car feel a little skiddy on wet sealed surfaces, which is where the full-time four-wheel drive system xeotoford.comes in handy. If you spend the majority of your time on sealed surfaces I’d personally stick with the regular highway tyres.
On the safety front, the Everest Trend is pretty much fully loaded and xeotoford.comes with plenty of active safety equipment. Lượt thích the Ranger, the adaptive cruise control system is outstanding. Its response lớn vehicles is really natural as it accelerates progressively and it doesn’t overreact và brake heavily when vehicles pull in front of you.
The lane-keep assist works really well và takes a bit for it to lớn get confused. The same goes for the lane-centring function which is really strong & correct for the most part.

Is the Ford Everest safe?

Expert’s Take on the Ford Everest
The Ford Everest continues lớn be a benchmark in its segment; although, its pricing continues to lớn push towards larger và plusher seven- and eight-seat large SUV rivals.
This is made more apparent the higher you step up in the Everest range.
The mid-specification Trend on chạy thử is a well-equipped variant that is a sweet spot in the range. There are quite a few option boxes you can tick; though, be prepared to lớn pay for the privilege.
If you’re not willing to wait months for the V6-equipped Everest, this Trend variant with the four-cylinder bi-turbo engine is still really good. It produces healthy outputs và doesn’t feel slow whatsoever in everyday driving.
You’ll only miss the extra 30k
W/100Nm of the V6 turbo-diesel if you’re towing or have the car fully loaded.
Something khổng lồ keep in mind if you’re interested in getting the Everest is it’s a ute-based body-on-frame SUV that’s high riding và doesn’t offer quite the same level of on-road dynamics as a unibody large SUV.
If you spend the majority of your time on sealed surfaces I’d rexeotoford.commend shopping around and testing some other unibody large SUVs before putting your hard-earned cash down on an Everest.
